The Sustainable Finance Sr. Associate will report to the Climate Finance Coordinator.

The position will be responsible for mainstreaming Mexico's Sustainable Taxonomy in strategic actors, such as regulators and national development banks, and workframes, including developing thematic bonds and other green financial instruments.

The position will support the development of products and project components.

Main responsibilities include developing and implementing 1) trainings (in situ and virtual), 2) supervising the correct implementation of the Sustainable Taxonomy reporting tool to be developed by a consultancy, 3) developing and implementing the pilot programme of the Sustainable Taxonomy, 4) developing thematic bond frameworks for public and private issuers.

To do so, this will entail close coordination with the Climate Finance and Policy Senior Advisor, as well as other GGGI staff.

In addition, the position will support LAC Green Investor Lead in the development of green financial instruments, as well as organizing and delivering training for market actors on pre
- and post-bond issuance and reporting.

Finally, the position will require providing green/sustainable finance ad hoc technical assistance to other national and subnational counterparties.


PURPOSE:


  • Support the implementation of Mexico's Sustainable Taxonomy, in close collaboration with GGGI's team and partners (Ministry of Finance, NDB, CNBV, among others)
  • Support the development of green financial instruments, such as thematic bond frameworks or green loan frameworks in close collaboration with GGGI's LAC Green Investment Lead.
  • Deliver capacity building workshops for market actors (public officials and private sector actors) on Mexico's Sustainable Taxonomy and green financial instruments.
  • Develop materials for users, including guidelines, procedures, tools, training materials and other technical documents.

ENGAGEMENT:


  • Work closely with national counterparts, particularly the Ministry of Finance, the National Banking and Securities Commission, national development banks, other private sector stakeholders (ie. Stock exchanges, financial entities, issuers) and other relevant parties that could support and facilitate GGGI ́s delivery, scalability and impact at federal and subnational level.
  • Coordinate closely with the México and regional teams as needed to build complementary capabilities and stronger technical delivery.

DELIVERY:


  • Create capacities among partners (public and private sector market and economic actors) to understand and use Mexico's Sustainable Taxonomy through trainings, socializations, and knowledge products.
  • Develop and disseminate capacity development and knowledge sharing products such as insight briefs and reporting toolkit on Mexico's Sustainable Taxonomy.
  • Develop thematic bond frameworks (green, social, sustainability and sustainabilitylinked) in alignment with international best practices and principles.
  • Assist prospective issuers in obtaining a Second Party Opinion from a reputable certifier/verifier.
  • Develop and deliver sustainable finance capacity building presentations and material.
  • Participate in any other relevant activities deemed necessary for the development of GGGI's México programme, including monitoring and evaluation of the climate finance related activities.

REQUIREMENTS:


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master's degree in Finance, Public Policy, Public Administration, Environmental Economics, or a relevant field
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience in the financial sector, preferably in the public administration and in the field of climate/green/sustainable finance.
  • Understanding of green finance and sustainable financial instruments (bonds, grants, debt, guarantees and equity) and familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks and SDGs.
  • Experience leading and organizing workshops/webinars.
  • Experience in client facing roles in public institutions or development agencies.
  • Excellent verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish.
