JOB DESCRIPTION:
The KPS Engineer is responsible
for
managing business improvement projects as a dynamic change agent using engineering and lean tools to deliver breakthrough levels of improvement in operational costs, quality, performance and Safety.
Major responsibilities include:
Essential Functions:
- Plan, execute and manage projects to complete through product continuous improvement.
- Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
- Manage a portfolio of lean projects directed at reducing waste and improving quality to provide greater valve; implements such tools as: 5S, KPI, SMED, VSM, and Kaizen.
- Will be responsible for managing and leading continuous improvement projects, as well as mentoring and coaching Project leads as part of Cost Deployment strategy.
- Prepare the layouts, detailed drawings, and other documentation to assist in improving the manufacturing processes
- Develop standard work standards and line balancing for productivity, document visuals and process as required.
- Identify and track manufacturing cost reductions by implementing Quick Kaizen, Standard, Major and Advanced Kaizens or other Lean initiatives.
- Execute Projects as need it.
- Be a "leaser of change". This person must be comfortable working with all levels within the organization. They must be able to question the status quo and be a strong communicator.
- Skilled in lean manufacturing methodologies: Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, TPM, SMED, Six Sigma, Standard work, Value Stream Mapping current and future state and Visual Controls
- Train and lead crossfunctional continuous improvement teams; focusing on measurable quality, service and cost improvements.
- Trains, coaches and motivates personnel in the understanding and adoption of new principles and techniques
- Develop and sustain employees training and development on lean concepts
- Supports or conducts trainings for KPS events to support organizational development through the understanding of concepts and practices of KPS
- Responsible for maintaining and improve OEE Vorne System, Shopfloor Management.
- Identifies barriers to project success and solicits help when needed
- Support Safety, Quality Activities, procedures and other pillar activities or initiatives with team members.
- The employee has the authority to stop the production line, when he/she notices that the product has a quality problem or defect.
- Support PSA Activities and procedures with team members
- Perform all those activities that by the nature of the position are required.
Management & Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees
Knowledge:
- Lean Tools
Experience:
- 13 years Lean Manufacturing expertise having led continuous improvement projects and
- Must have minimum of 1year experience in the automotive manufacturing environment.
Skills:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to motivate teams of people and drive for results.
- Effective problem solvers, conduct unbiased analysis, and identify hidden problems to achieve effective solutions.
- Team facilitation skills
- Understanding of costing structure and quantitative analysis
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Operations Management
- Green belt Certification preferred.
- Strong Lean Manufacturing expertise
- Proven track record in leading highperformance teams and attaining results; able to quantify results
