Job Purpose

The Sourcing Buyer drives and executes all purchasing activities up to and including production supplier selection with the purpose of selecting the most competitive suppliers from a Quality Delivery Cost and Feature perspective in accordance with the Sourcing strategy and the Projects' requirements.


Main Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop and ensure implementation of sourcing strategies, aligned cross functionally.
  • Follow market
- and technology development and trends in its area of expertise to identify new suppliers when needed.

  • Secure rawmaterial agreement where applicable.
  • Plan and drive the purchasing related SIPD (Supplier Involvement in Product Development) activities before production supplier selection.
  • Lead, negotiate and execute all sourcing activities in every phase of the product life cycle, start cost projects, PMRs when new supplier is selected (e.g., supplier switches).
  • Manage all project related supplier relations (meetings, documents, feedback etc.), and attend in applicable project crossfunctional teams, up until production supplier selection decision is made.
  • Negotiate; ensure signature and storage of all relevant agreements in all phases of the product life cycle, including business extension.
  • Negotiate optimized part, tool, development, prototype cost, payment terms and productivity commitments with the suppliers in the sourcing phase.
  • If raw material agreement does not exist, lead raw material negotiations in project and production phase.
  • Establish close collaboration with the segment counterparts of the Volvo Group's purchasing organizations to ensure alignment of strategies and maximize the negotiation leverage towards our common suppliers.

General qualifications & skills:


  • Very good English skills both in written and oral.
  • Preferably university degree in Business Administration and /or engineering.
  • Proficient Office, and SAP.
  • Financial analysis.
  • Technology knowledge.
  • Cost Management.
  • Knowledge in Production & Supply chain.
  • Quality Management.
  • Project Management.
  • Managing international business
  • Availability to travel frequently.
