ABOUT WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION

The team you will be a part of:

  • The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

This role in summary:


The Food Technology Engineer will be responsible for the development and verification of culinary performance for freestanding ranges, built in wall ovens, and built in cooktops. They will own both the virtual and physical development of cooking accessories, cavity components, and the development of appliance algorithms to meet consumer expectations. The Senior Food Technology Engineer is also a resource for food science and food chemistry related knowledge and will serve as a technical consultant to others within the corporation.

The Senior Food Technology Engineer will join the Cooking Performance Subsystem Team, which is responsible for new product development of freestanding ranges and built in cooking products globally. They will represent the voice of the customer in project teams with respect to cavity and cooktop culinary performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

Translate the voice of the customer to system, subsystem, and component level requirements.

Design and execution of cavity and cooktop components with respect to culinary performance including heating elements, convection systems, utensils, racks, trays, griddles, and grills.

Creation, verification, and validation of advanced cooking and sensing algorithms to provide best in class culinary performance.

Technical project management, schedule, resource management, and risk analysis, related to modules, components, and algorithms owned.

Lead through others with planning, training, and facilitation of laboratory technicians.

Continuously improve the planning, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Minimum requirements:

-
Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of related work experience OR Masters Degree with at least 1 year of related work experience.
-
Degree major in Food Engineering, Food Science or related science/engineering.
-
Related work experience includes Appliance, Consumer Goods, or Food Industry experience.
-
Experience with product development tools such as A3, DFMEA, DVP&R, Stage Gate Development Plans, etc.

Preferred skills and experiences:

-
Advanced knowledge of food chemistry and heat transfer.
-
Kinetic modeling of reactions in food.
-
Ability to analyze mechanical and electrical systems.
-
Knowledge of control theory and control systems.
-
Demonstrated project management and computer skills.
-
Ability to travel within the US and global design centers.
-
Black Belt/Opex/Six Sigma experience.
-
Knowledge of Consumer Reports or other consumer agency evaluation methodologies.
