This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Mexico City (UNIC Mexico City), within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD), Department of Global Communications (DGC).


The UNIC Mexico, part of the global network of United Nations information centres, is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Mexico.

UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to local audiences; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves.


The incumbent is under the overall supervision of the Director of UNIC Mexico City and the direct supervision of its National Information Officer.


Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

  • Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences.
  • Serves as an information focal point on UN activities to develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies (NGOS, private sector, academia, government diplomatic and media organizations) to strengthen support for the work of the United Nations; liaises with governmental bodies, civil society organizations news and publications agencies, public relations firms, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; Organizes and executes special events, coordinating with diverse partners and the media to highlight and publicize key events.
  • Handles administrative coordination in support of special training and other programmes.
  • Serves as the online digital, marketing and promotion coordinator by overseeing the daytoday marketing activities and working closely with the Centre's webmaster to ensure successful branding techniques; undertakes proactive call and directs mail initiatives to build a client base and nurture relationships; produces a wide range of promotional products; and develops data collection mechanisms to gather data on the audience and endusers of UN audio/visual/ and graphic products.
  • Assists in the production and editing of video/film projects, radio programmes, or website projects: researches diverse print and electronic information sources for topics and materials for projects; suggests ideas on content, narration texts, audio excerpts, design elements, etc.; selects and catalogues sound/ visual materials and evaluates quality for inclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights; prepares detailed "shot lists" of video and film material; etc.
  • Assists in the production of social media content for publication, in line with strategic communication plans and activities; Assists on a regular basis in the coordination of the publication of social media content with several stakeholders; Supports UN communication campaigns and assists in developing best practices in order to reinforce their dissemination and key messages; Monitors feedback and reaction on the social media accounts; Uses appropriate analysis tools in order to measure participation and adapts accordingly social media plans; Assists colleagues of the Information Centre in charge of the management of the website; Assists, supports and coordinates the production and publishing of the web content and visuals regarding the Information Center activities;
  • Carries out research work and prepares written draft answers (in English and in Spanish) on activities related to public relations, in particular for the web and the social media.
  • Identifies and prepares new material for inclusion in appropriate web pages by: researching various information sources for relevant material and crosschecking information with author offices as required;
  • Provides guidance and training to junior staff and interns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
