The International Finance Corporation ('IFC' or the 'Corporation'), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is the largest multilateral provider of financing for private enterprise in emerging markets.

IFC provides loans, equity, structured finance and risk management tools as well as advisory services to build the private sector in developing countries.

IFC invests in private sector projects that are financially and economically viable and have a substantial development impact.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Maintain and nurture good relationships with existing clients and develop partnerships with existing clients with technological and innovative added value required to fulfill IFC's mandate. Understand and proactively manage client needs while looking out for IFC's interest. Identify opportunities for further business with existing clients in the areas of investment, technical assistance activities and financial services. Lead the processing of new investments depending on availability of capacity and opportunities.
  • Respond to client requests and/or assist clients in solving problems may include processing waivers and/or disbursements; assisting client in implementing E&S action plans; negotiating documentation, using strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions; executing necessary amendments to legal agreements
  • Review company information and prepare reports on periodic financial statements, project progress reports and other information submitted by clients. Track the operational and financial performance of portfolio clients, including compliance with IFC's agreements. Prepare any necessary documentation for internal processes, including quarterly IRPs, valuations, and any other required documents.
  • Ensure any downside risk is mitigated via relevant strategies, appropriate management actions, or through use of marketbased risk management instruments and strategies Identify early warning signals for the assigned projects and where necessary, formulate and implement intervention strategies for workouts, restructuring or rescheduling.
  • Actively manage existing equity investments, including valuations. Monitor equity holdings and develop and implement sales strategies to maximize IFC's return and development impact.
  • Liaise with support departments such as Legal, Credit and Environment & Social to ensure the existing projects are adhering to IFC's policies and standards.
  • Provide senior guidance and support to the junior IOs and Analysts in the region particularly on portfolio tasks. Supervise junior portfolio staff based in Mexico City.
  • Play the role of Portfolio Manager under Delegated Authority in select projects in the subregion (Andean, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean).

Selection Criteria

  • MBA, Masters Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or Equivalent.
  • At least 1215 years of work experience of which at least 810 years for a major commercial or investment bank with significant emerging markets presence, a development finance institution (DFI), an international financial institution, a private equity firm or a development organization with tasks related to private sector financing and development.
  • Experience in portfolio supervision and/or investment transaction, with proven success in developing client relationships as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing quality investments.
  • Knowledge of the Infra core sectors (power, transportations, utilities); equity investment and/or project finance is preferred; investment transaction and/or portfolio experience in the Infra sectors in LAC would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience in emerging markets.
  • Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners.
  • Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity).
