Material Handling Design & Process Implementation Jr Manager

Main Purpose

  • Lead the multistage move and commissioning of Nestle's new Distribution Center, ensuring a smooth transition from existing facilities to the new automated system.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of material handling systems (racks, ASRS, AGVs) based on the chosen automation option, working closely with the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Develop and implement efficient warehouse processes for the new facility, focusing on improved efficiency, reduced errors, and optimized transport of products from factories to the Distribution Center (DC).
  • Lead the identification of gaps in existing transportation, people, product reception, and product dispatch processes. Develop and implement plans to address these gaps and drive successful change management.
  • Manage a team of professionals to execute the move and commissioning plan within budget and timeline constraints, minimizing disruption to ongoing business operations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Participate in the selection process for equipment vendors and contractors alongside the Project Engineering Manager, considering transportation system needs.
  • Stay up to date on industry best practices for warehouse design, operations, and transportation management.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for warehouse process improvement, including transportation efficiency, people allocation, product reception, and dispatch.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the warehouse team.

Activities

During Project Design Phase and Commissioning Plan Development:

  • Develop a detailed multi-stage move and commissioning plan with clear roles and responsibilities for each team member.
  • Participate in the design the layout of the new facility based on the chosen automation system and operational requirements, prioritizing efficiency, throughput, and optimized product flow. This will be done in close collaboration with the Project Engineering Manager to ensure technical feasibility and smooth handover.
  • Develop detailed procedures for equipment installation, commissioning, and integration with the WMS, working alongside the Project Engineering Manager to account for technical aspects.
  • Develop a transition plan for the skills of the workforce who will operate the new DC in VDM. Include strategies for integrating and allocating personnel from the current site. This plan should consider change management principles to facilitate adaptation.
  • Create comprehensive training materials for staff on new warehouse processes and technologies, incorporating change management strategies to facilitate smooth adaptation.
  • Develop risk management strategies to mitigate potential challenges during the move and commissioning.

During Project Implementation and Commissioning Execution:

  • Lead and manage the execution of the multi-stage move and commissioning plan according to schedule and budget, ensuring on-time completion.
  • Work closely with the Project Engineering Manager to oversee the installation and commissioning of the chosen automated storage system.
  • Manage the transfer of inventory and operations from existing DCs to the new facility in a controlled and efficient manner, minimizing disruption.
  • Implement the new WMS and train staff on its functionalities, achieving a fully integrated system for the new facility.
  • Monitor and optimize warehouse processes, including transportation, people allocation, product reception, and dispatch, to ensure smooth operations, improved efficiency, and continuous improvement.

During Post Commissioning Phase:


  • Prepare comprehensive handover documentation for the operational team, including layout plans, equipment manuals, and standard operating procedures in collaboration with the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Continuously monitor warehouse performance metrics, focusing on efficiency, throughput, error reduction, and employee satisfaction, including metrics related to transportation, people allocation, and product handling.
  • Lead a postimplementation review to assess project successes, identify areas for improvement in future projects, and evaluate the effectiveness of change management initiatives

During the Whole Project Life:


  • Lead and manage the logistics standardization process throughout the project life cycle.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to crossfunctional teams on warehouse operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain open communication channels with all stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with logistics operations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Comply with the Code of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, Nestlé Instructions and Nestlé Policy on the Marketing of Breast Milk, any amendm
