JOB SUMMARY:

The Buyer is responsible for procurement functions directly associated with Hillrom needs for select production materials and services.

These products and services are to be secured at cost, quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards.

The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt, and inventory control of the products and services as assigned.

This individual will play a key role within the supply chain to use their knowledge of planning and inventory management, lean manufacturing concepts and techniques (e.g. Kanban), and ERP software to ensure Hillrom customer orders are delivered accurately and according to schedule. The Buyer utilizes their experience, knowledge, skills to work with greater initiative and with more complex challenges. They distinguish themselves by proactively identifying and resolving opportunities. They are experienced and highly effective negotiators, data analysts, communicators, and problem solvers.

Manages assigned commodities to reduce total cost of ownership, reduce inventory levels and increase inventory turns, and ensure on-time delivery.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

_- _Other duties may be assigned:

  • Work closely with the Director of Supply Chain, Sourcing/Commodity Management, Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Production, Sales Coordinators, Quality Assurance, and other departments as necessary to maintain production efficiency and quality.
  • Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; close coordination with engineering to assure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
  • Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate prices with suppliers; and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Work with current and prospective suppliers to determine and verify supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management, negotiate prices and delivery terms.
  • Coordinate the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with MRP requirements.
  • Coordinate as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
  • Determine and establish delivery dates that ensure a timely delivery in order to minimize inventory investment and foot print.
  • Issue Purchase Orders and verify that the suppliers have received them.
  • Ensure that all materials are received in a timely manner. Follow up on all purchase orders to ensure that scheduled delivery dates are met.
  • Review MRP output reports (e.g. planner workbench, order action) to determine jobs and purchase orders required to fulfill outstanding demands.
  • Review job shortages and respond in a timely manner to the Sales Coordinators and Production Manager on availability.
  • Provide the Sales Order Entry Coordinator with reliable customer order due dates, as needed.
  • Evaluate planning elements (e.g. leadtime, safety stock, days' supply) for manufactured assemblies.
  • Comply with our ISO 13485 Quality System standards.
  • Propose operational changes to the Director of Supply Chain to improve efficiency, eliminate wasteful processes and to reduce cost (e.g. methods of planning, forecasting, MPS etc.).
  • Evaluate and suggest changes with our business software capabilities/features.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct meetings, prepare and present reports, and provide information to identify purchasing requirements, establish business plans and performance objectives, and report performance against plan and business objectives.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Technology, or similar or 12 years of professional experience.
  • At least 45 years' experience as a buyer/planner.
  • Working knowledge of a lean and/or agile manufacturing environment planning and scheduling for Make to Stock,
