  • ZF is looking for a Senior Buyer
  • Program Purchasing for our location in Monterrey._

Position Summary:

The Senior Buyer - Program is responsible for serving as the functional expert for all purchasing activities related to a defined program.

This position can serve as the purchasing lead for a program or a group of parts within a program, including all activities for successful new program introduction and management of components through the life cycle of a program.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Manage Bill of Material cost for a program or set of parts within a program; develop costsaving methods and opportunities in order to promote overall business unit productivity and supplier competitiveness for defined program (i.e. through VA/VE methods, quoting, independent negotiations, etc.).
  • Preparation and support to Commodity for contract and sourcing negotiations.
  • Analyze North American supply base to prepare and recommend suppliers to be added/removed from the approved supplier list as well as nominate suppliers for the Strategic Supplier List.
  • Perform market research and monitor changes/trends for purposes of benchmarking and cost controlling.
  • Develop part family strategies in concert with the commodity strategies
  • Manage supply base both in regards to internal and intracompany initiatives, i.e. cost, quality, and delivery
  • Investigate optimal suppliers for materials in a timely manner through the effective use of industry techniques, procedures, and planning methods, while complying with ZF company policy.
  • Track costs and statuses of negotiations, while and maintaining agreements with suppliers.
  • Explore methods/materials for total cost management and cost structure analysis.
  • Update tracking tools according to industry best practices and ZF company policy.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs in order to promote team efforts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all group directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
  • 6+ years of advanced experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e. technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.)
  • Experience with supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e. quality, capacity, cost, etc.)
  • Experience with supplier bidding process and complex negotiations
  • Experience with APQP and/or project management tools and methods
  • Deep knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications
  • Deep knowledge of assigned commodity and related commodity market
  • Deep Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and techniques
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc.)
  • Superior technical abilities in business composition and mathematics
  • Superior analytical abilities with a high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced, highvolume environment
  • Proven ability to interface with crossfunctional teams and all levels of personnel and management
  • Solid organizational and time/project management skills
  • Experience with SAP
  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Preferred Skills and experience:


  • Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
  • C.P.P. (Certified Purchasing Professional) Certification
  • 6 years of managing/directing others in addition to delegating/tracking independent work assignments and training programs
  • 6 years of experience with highlevel/complex business and/or purchasing negotiations
  • Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics, PPAP documentation, product costing, and specifications
  • Experience in the Automotive industry
  • German and/or Spanish language skills
