    The Buyer plays a critical role in procurement functions associated with Hillrom needs for select production materials and services. These must be secured at competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards.

    This position involves planning, scheduling receipt, and inventory control of assigned products and services. The Buyer will leverage knowledge of planning and inventory management, lean manufacturing concepts, and ERP software to ensure accurate and timely delivery of Hillrom customer orders.

    The ideal candidate is an experienced negotiator, data analyst, communicator, and problem solver. They manage assigned commodities to reduce total cost of ownership, lower inventory levels, increase turns, and guarantee on-time delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate closely with the Director of Supply Chain, Sourcing/Commodity Management, Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Production, Sales Coordinators, Quality Assurance, and other departments to maintain production efficiency and quality.
    • Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, or special tools; arrange sample product submissions as required; coordinate with engineering for timely product sourcing execution.
    • Analyze quotations, negotiate prices with suppliers, and recommend suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness.
    • Determine and verify supplier capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control, and negotiate prices and delivery terms.
    • Coordinate schedules, inventory control parameters, and MRP requirements for assigned products and services.
    • Address quality matters and engineering changes between company activities and suppliers.
    • Determine delivery dates ensuring timely delivery to minimize inventory investment and footprint.
    • Issue Purchase Orders and verify supplier receipt.
    • Follow up on all purchase orders to ensure scheduled delivery dates are met.
    • Review MRP output reports to determine jobs and purchase orders required to fulfill outstanding demands.
    • Monitor job shortages and respond promptly to Sales Coordinators and Production Manager on availability.
    • Provide reliable customer order due dates to the Sales Order Entry Coordinator as needed.
    • Evaluate planning elements (lead-time, safety stock, days' supply) for manufactured assemblies.
    • Comply with ISO 13485 Quality System standards.
    • Pose operational changes to the Director of Supply Chain to improve efficiency, eliminate wasteful processes, and reduce costs.
    • Evaluate and suggest business software features and improvements.
    • Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects.
    • Conduct meetings, prepare and present reports, and provide information to identify purchasing requirements, establish business plans, and report performance against plan and objectives.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Technology, or similar, or 12 years of professional experience.
    • At least 4-5 years of experience as a buyer/planner.
    • Working knowledge of a lean and/or agile manufacturing environment, planning, and scheduling for Make to Stock.
