    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Characteristics:
    This is the top individual contributor position that may provide guidance to more junior technicians. Responsible for a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory operations and test method development (in a laboratory or plant).

    Duties include routine and non-routine experiments, reexamination of borderline results, researching technical literature, evaluating old processes and some statistical analysis.

    Write experimental reports, summaries, protocols and appropriate documentation in a lab notebook. Requires a high degree of acquired skills to use a variety of laboratory equipment and apply knowledge broadly. Requires ability to set up and operate special equipment following manufacturer's instructions with limited supervision. May perform difficult chemical analyses. Has full responsibility for minor projects. May train less experienced associates. Performs routine and safety program checks and preventive maintenance on instruments.


    Education/Work Experience:
    Typically requires an associate degree/coursework in a related field (. lab technician programs, college coursework in science, technology, engineering or mathematics) or equivalent and six or more years of laboratory technician or closely related experience. Some incumbents may hold a Degree. Must demonstrate ability to apply proper laboratory methods.


    CHINA ONLY:
    Requires chemistry-related degree and English proficiency.


    Independence Level/Reports to:
    Performs work under general supervision.

    Works on the most complex assignments and performs tests, where the highest level of discretions and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.

    May be designated as a 'Lead' worker. Normally reports to Laboratory Supervisor or higher-level associate.
