Overview:

Element have an opportuity for a

Safety Leader. The Safety Leader role is a key role to ensure the organization operates efficiently through planning and implementing the company safety program within the facility. This position requires developing knowledge of and be trained in Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE). The position will focus time on multiple responsibilities between a primary function along with the SHE support function and will report directly to the location General Manager.


Responsibilities:


  • Act as safety resource to lab team members
  • Assist lab management with loss control activities
  • Coordinate and assist developing facility risk assessments
  • Establish and implement the Safety Health and Environmental company program ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate Safety Health and Environmental audits, inspections and evaluations
  • Review and monitor subcontractor controls
  • Ensure corrective management action when required
  • Conduct lab loss control data/documentation collection
  • Assist with new hire orientation and training programs
  • Communicate with all levels of personnel
  • Promote employee participation in the Safety Health and Environmental program(s)
  • Formulate and conduct safety training sessions/demonstrations
  • Lead the facility safety committee team
  • Assist in major incident investigations and appropriate documentation
  • Exhibit operational knowledge of pertinent safety standards
  • Responsible for the reporting on the performance of the SHE management system, ensuring two way communication to management, colleagues and any other interested parties
  • Distribute new and changing safety related information
  • Ensure safety equipment is part of operational maintenance plans
  • Coordinate return to work/modified duty program with the assistance of the Human Resources Department.
  • Ensure all SHE equipment is part of operational maintenance plans, ordered, available, distributed, inspected (as required), and replaced when necessary (PPE, fire extinguishers, AEDs, safety showers, etc.)
  • Assist and ensure all third party equipment inspections occur cranes, fume hoods, tanks, compressors, vessels, etc.
  • Facilitate monthly SHE inspection(s)
  • Ensure monthly safety committee meeting occurs, support development of the agenda and recording & tracking of improvement actions
  • Ensure timely closure of local improvement actions within SHE Incident Mgt. System
  • Measure and communicate location SHE KPIs lagging incident rates, event occurrence and lessons learned, closeout of actions
  • Coordinate and deliver monthly all hands SHE training and record & track attendance
  • Deliver toolbox talk training
  • Attend Monthly SHE Division meeting
  • Review and monitor subcontractor controls
  • Ensure implementation of Company SHE Business Practices such as local risk assessments (area and task), emergency/contingency planning
  • Assist management with loss control activities
  • Assist and facilitate with new hire orientation/on boarding and defined training programs
  • Utilize the SHE Incident Mgt System to effectively manage local training, audits, meeting minutes, assigned actions and SHE events
  • Promote colleague participation in SHE program through monthly communications (newsletter, site presentations etc.)

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of governmental safety and health regulations/legislation
  • Suitable certification to be held (NEBOSH General Certificate, OSHA 30hr / IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent as minimum)
  • Minimum experience level: 12 years experience in a safety support role and/or leadership position with interest and/or experience in organization development and working in a challenging setting
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must be able to complete and understand local Safety, Health and Environmental training
