Responsibilities:
The Opportunity
Lead a team of R&D Scientists/Engineers and Technicians to drive cross-functional, multi-year execution of scaled innovation programs for the Frito Lay North America and Gamesa Exports from Mexico.
Lead brand stewardship, pep + and productivity agenda for the baking category for the US and cookies and crackers exports from México to the US.
Your Impact
As R&D Region Brand Manager your scope would consist of
- Develop and maintain a relationship with cross functional partners to deliver an aligned innovation plan (3+ years)
- Establish deep and broad knowledge of category platform, technology levers and cohort needs
- Utilize scientific methods to develop knowledge that creates business opportunities that support the company strategic market objectives
- Provide technical and business risk assessment/perspectives related to new product development
- Design and execute experiments, and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues
- Demonstrates thought leadership and influence beyond product development
- Know in detail and follow the innovation process to ensure a robust product design
- Leverage external and internal experts for key analytical and sensory research
- Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredients, ingredient suppliers, and product formulations
- Develop product formulations that leverages expertise in food chemistry and food ingredient functionality
- Develop complete product attribute specifications for new products.
- Partner externally to source ingredients and leverage vendor expertise in ingredient functionality
- Participate as an active member of crossfunctional business development teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and other groups
- Work together with the Technology Applications and New Platforms team to develop strategic and competitive solutions for the platform
- Partner with R&D disciplines as Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Nutrition, Regulatory, to ensure a robust, safe and legal product design
- Engage support of internal experts & team as needed
- Provide updates to key R&D and crossfunctional executive leadership
- Manage R&D project budgets
Qualifications:
Who Are We Looking For?
- Education/Certifications: BS, MS or PhD. Degree in Food Science or Engineering
- Knowledge in baking: Cookies and cracker technologies or product development preferred
- Experience on managing and partnering with lead Scientists during accelerated product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, product optimization, production startup for test market and national launching of new products
- Experience in product or process commercialization/optimization and/or productivity
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Experience leading/coordinating crossfunctional and crossregional teams
- Ability to oversee project activities, as Project Lead.
- Ability to influence, collaborate and communicate both above and below level
- Demonstrated capability to effectively manage complex projects or multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated understanding of how to incorporate business needs into technical decisions
- Ability and interest to work in laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments
