The Quality Control Engineer in Richmond, Engineering and Supply (E&S) will work collaboratively with the local engineering team and the vessel design team in Denmark to ensure vessel requirements from the customer are met by the vendor, fabricated components meet customer specs and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as provide a final quality review of equipment drawings used in workshops.

In addition to that, Quality Control Engineer will develop and supervise network of thirdparty inspectors in Mexico to perfrom inspections during the high workload period.

This role will enhance the capability and quality of the US E&S project team but located in México


Key responsibilities:

  • Take lead and responsibility on the quality of fabricated items for E&S projects
  • In close collaboration with Vessel team, provide inspection plans for each project
  • Work and communicate effectively with engineers, Vessel Responsible/Leads, Accounting/Logistics and customer's inspectors/representatives
  • Review contracts to verify the quality and inspection plans prepared for projects
  • Review vendor's ITP and quality plans to match requirements
  • Perform quality inspection on fabricated itemslike vessels, tanks, filters etc
  • Follow up with workshops based on fabrication plans to secure delivery on time
  • Coordinate inspections needed for each project in alignment with the needs agreed with Vessel Lead in each project
  • Perform inspections at supplier's workshops/customer sites
  • Prepare/review inspection reports
  • Follow up on nonconformities found during inspections/mentioned on the reports
  • Establish documentation for nonconformities found during inspections and closure of each nonconformity point
  • Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities (e.g., write requisitions, perform installation supervision, etc.)
  • Ensure the required services meet Alfa Laval, customer, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget
  • Ensure vessels comply with ASME code and API standards, when relevant
  • Control revision of drawings used in workshop floor matches the latest available versions
  • Review vendor documentation and drawings from quality perspective
  • Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions
  • Assist in finding new suppliers or developing new supplier network
  • Assist with mechanical construction, startup, and commissioning field support: customer, contractor, and vendor interaction.
  • Loading/lifting Inspections during vessels delivery from Vendor.
  • Factory acceptance tests (FAT) with the clients prior to shipping equipment

Competencies, experience, and attitudes to do the job:

Education & Experience:

  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and/or pressure vessel manufacturing
  • Experience with US requirements for industrial plants and steel structures
  • General knowledge of industry standards and best practices including ASME, ASTM, ANSI, API, AWWA, HI, PPI, among others.
  • Experience with inspection of static, rotating, and package equipment within the Refining, Oil and Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical industries
  • Experience with inspections as per ASME Section VIII, IX
  • Knowledge and understanding of the welding processes (FCAW, GMAW, SAW, TIG, SMAW)
  • Experience with API 577 and 582 would be an advantage
  • Experience with IS156091, ISO , ISO 96061, ISO 14732 and ISO 5817 would be an advantage
  • US working visa for traveling purposes
  • Since the team members are located in US is necessary full english skills
