Manager Manufacturing Engineering - Cost and Strategy:

About the Role


Leads team supporting operations and manufacturing processes, tooling and tool design, and equipment needed to produce assigned parts/products successfully and economically in accordance with engineering specifications.


What You Will Do

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in development of major manufacturing/cost projects, working with internal/external suppliers and customers to develop longer term manufacturing strategy that aligns with divisional goals. Lead projects to support/improve manufacturing productivity and cost effectiveness.
**What You Have - Skills and Experiences

**Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: - Provides leadership for cost reduction projects: _

  • Lead multiple cost reduction projects across ACM factories. Provides leadership for operational efficiency improvement, targeted supplier cost reductions and internal process optimization.
  • Provides Strategic Direction: _
  • Makes sound business decisions on behalf of the group when faced with complex and contradictory alternatives.
  • Validates the consistency of group initiatives with the organizational vision.
  • Interprets available data and analyses when creating tactical/strategic plans.
  • Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.
  • Recommends ways to position the organization for longterm competitiveness. Prepares the group's response to key marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities.

Lean Manufacturing:

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Finds solution for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean.
  • Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.
  • Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment.
  • Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean.

Manufacturing Application Systems:

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Documents the major interfaces and dependencies to and from other systems.
  • Follows procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of the databases.
  • Uses all basic features of the information system in context of own work.

Manufacturing Equipment:

Level Basic Understanding:

  • Describes the roles and responsibilities of equipment vendors and own staff.
  • Explains where and how to obtain more equipmentspecific information.
  • Lists basic aspects of routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Identifies uses and features of diverse types of manufacturing equipment.

Manufacturing Safety:

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Conducts daily maintenance and keeps tracking logs on safety equipment.
  • Responds to first aid and accident situations following standard procedures.
  • Inspects manufacturing working environment to find safety violations within a specific area.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment required or recommended for manufacturing staff.
  • Determines appropriate action to take when unsafe conditions are encountered.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies:

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of specific manufacturing procedures.
  • Investigates the need to refer potential exceptions upward for review and approval.
  • Explains the rationale for procedures and standards in own area of responsibility.
  • Participates in the implementation of manufacturing standards and procedures to one's own function.
  • Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.

What is Required

  • University degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or Supply Chain
  • Fluent English
  • Advanced experience within component manufacturing engineering (fabrication, worked components, heat treat, component assembly)
  • Experience building and implementing strategy.
  • Experience planning and implementing sourcing projects for IF components.
  • Experience with development and approval of Business Proposals
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar's global manufacturing footprint
  • Strong communication and team building skills.
  • Previous experience in design engineering a plus.
  • Technical Manufacturing background
  • Global Supply Chain Experience
  • Master's in business administration
  • NPI/ NSI experience Experience with International cultures.
