Work Location: This position can be based in Spain, the Caribbean (Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, or Aruba), or East Coast of the United States

Mission

The Head of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and implementation of nature-based initiatives globally in response to Iberostar's needs for risk identification and reduction.

This position works closely with the Department of Climate Action and other internal teams to identify and mitigate atmospheric and environmental risks that can be addressed through nature. It ensures that ecosystem-based approaches are scientifically grounded, well-documented, effectively implemented, and consistently reported on across projects. Furthermore, the position will manage technical workflows, support field teams, ensure data integrity and oversee a team of four NbS Coordinators.

Reporting to the Director of Nature, you will bridge the gap between scientific theory and operational reality, ensuring all ecosystem-based approaches are data-driven, effectively documented, and consistently reported.

You'll join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to sustainability, innovation, and science-backed decision-making.

What will your day-to-day work be like?

As Head of Nature-based Solutions, your main responsibilities will include:

• Strategy & Implementation: Coordinate and supervise the planning and administrative execution of global NbS projects (e.g., erosion control, reforestation, green infrastructure). Assist with coordinating workshops, training, and knowledge-sharing sessions related to NbS.
• Cross-Functional Integration: Partner with Operations, Construction, Engineering, and Climate Action teams to embed NbS into property-level action plans.
• Technical Oversight: Review technical reports, risk assessments, and monitoring outputs to ensure compliance with internal and scientific standards.
• Data & Reporting: Manage internal databases (risk registers, baseline assessments) and contribute to ESG, TNFD, and CSRD reporting.
• Team Leadership: Supervise four NbS Coordinators, managing their technical workflows, day-to-day operations, and professional development.
• External Management: Oversee consultants and external partners, ensuring project timelines and quality benchmarks are met.

Who is the ideal person for this job?

• Education: University degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years in environmental management, ecological risk assessment, or climate adaptation (preferably in tourism or coastal environments).
• Technical Expertise: Proven experience in global NbS project implementation, ecological risk assessment, and biodiversity accounting. Solid understanding of Nature-Based Solutions principles and applications, particularly in relation to climate and ecological risk reduction.
• Budgeting: Experience with budgeting and expense reporting
• Leadership: Demonstrated experience in personnel supervision, coordinating teams, and managing multidisciplinary project timelines.
• Data Skills: Proficiency in data analysis (quantitative/qualitative); experience with spatial data, ecosystem services modeling, or ecosystem modeling is highly desirable.
• Tools: High proficiency in Excel/Office; experience with statistical software (R, SPSS, or MATLAB). High proficiency with Google Workspace is a plus.
• Communication: Analytical thinker with the ability to translate complex scientific data into actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
• Mission-Driven: Deep passion and commitment to nature, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable tourism and practical implementation of NbS, and continuous professional learning.
• Adaptability: Availability to travel regularly and work flexible hours, including fieldwork when needed
• Languages: Fluency in Spanish and English (French or Arabic is a plus).
• Certifications: Valid driving license and Advanced Rescue Diver certification
