We are looking for a multifaceted engineering leader to define, drive and evolve the implementation of Databricks in our Data Availability estate.

Enterprise Data Availability Services is a central team leading Data, Analytics and AI Platforms and Solutions.

We build and manage enterprise technology platforms, and run them as services, which enable AZ data engineers from all domain areas to solve data challenges.

We are in the process of refining our Data Availability technology landscape transforming to cloud-native data platforms, and are looking for someone who can join us at this crucial point to lead our Databricks service.

You will be the Service Lead - the person that is accountable for the success of Databricks in AstraZeneca.

We need someone that can lead, shape and build the technology platform inline with our reference architecture, so that it is scalable and balanced and most meaningfully loved by AZ Data Engineers.

We also nee you to be an inspiring engineering leader who can develop their distributed team, handle and influence multiple collaborators - all whilst having laser focus on delivery and improving return of value.

What you'll do

You will be accountable for crafting and delivering the roadmap for the Enterprise Databricks platform, ensuring we have the right security, difficulty, integrations and automation to work efficiently, safely and at speed
Leading and working with your team you will need to refine an effective and agile working practices to ensure that the platform evolves to meet user needs whilst ensuring key service metrics, net promoter scores and metrics are define, governed, maintained and improved progressively
You will ensure we have structure, prioritised backlogs, planning of the team so that dependencies are identified and delivery is predictable working in conjunction with our PI Planning cycles
You will be accountable for the cost of run of the Databricks Platform and defining measures to highlight the business value return of the work your team accomplish
You will establish strong working relationships with the data teams, third parties and partners to develop and oversee and aligned strategy of onboarding and migration to the platform
As an engineering leader you will advocate and advance modern, agile development practices and help develop and promote excellent engineering culture
You'll build and develop a hardworking team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and handson career development

We consider individuals in this role to be our credible Engineers; this means you need to be capable of working in multiple spaces and are likely to be the most experienced and skilled engineer on the team.

You will raise expectations within the whole team, solve complex technical problems and work alongside complementary delivery platforms.

You have proven track record to work with Databricks or similar enterprise data management platforms showing an enterprise approach and having implemented good governance practices, standards and industry practices
You have eight years of experience of an engineering background and solid history as a lead data engineer; managed global technical teams with strong Team Leadership skills
You have demonstrable experience of working with multiple internal collaborators to deliver complex roadmaps
You have a solid experience in building partnerships with technical vendors
You have experience working in a global organization with multipartners, collaborators and team members are spread out in a diverse culture environment
You have good exposure to Cloud environments, Spark, RDBMS and SQL programming
You understand and can lead technical roadmaps for operational monitoring, usability and governance
You have good awareness and experience working with GxP and SOX compliant platforms and services; and understand key concepts behind data security & protection, access based policies, back up and disaster recovery
You have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Equivalent
