Job Purpose:

  • The role applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Responsible for accounting requirements for assigned areas to be complete timely and accurately.
  • Major Accountabilities
  • Interact proactively with functional areas to ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting is accomplished within prescribed deadlines and in accordance with IFRS / Alcon Accounting Manual
  • Prepare accurate and robust monthly balance sheet account analyses and reconciliations, including analyses for balance sheet reviews
  • Prepare accurate journal entries in a timely manner
  • Ongoing process improvements made through the month to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and address business / operational changes.
  • Collaborate proactively with key stakeholders, including Finance colleagues, internal and external accounting authorities/auditors, and Regional/Global Financial Reporting and Accounting. Communication with these stakeholders is appropriate and timely when questions regarding accounting/reporting matters arise.
  • Ensure all processes comply with Alcon standards and policies (i.e. global processes, Alcon Accounting Manual, Alcon Financial Controls Manual, Management Authorization Levels, etc.).
  • Understand all impacts to the general ledger for assigned areas due to other intra
- and inter-departmental transactions including manufacturing, inventory and cost accounting, inter-company receivables and payables, cash activity and activity from other functional departments.

  • Education:
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance required. Masters or Advanced degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred
  • CPA/Chartered Accountant preferred
  • Requirements:
  • 6+ years of accounting experience public and industry preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IFRS (GAAP), accounting and financial reporting requirements. Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient ERP knowledge (SAP, JDE)
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Experience working on process improvement projects and financial process engineering
  • Experience working within shared services teams preferred
