About MongoDB Documentation Team

The team is responsible for developing and maintaining documentation for MongoDB products.

Responsibilities:

Manage and grow a talented team of writers
Prioritize and plan documentation projects
Influence strategic vision for MongoDB docs
Use strong writing and technical skills to guide production of clear and consistent reference documentation

Candidate Profile:

Candidates must have:

Extensive technical writing experience
2+ years of experience managing a team of technical writers
Strong critical reading and writing skills
Experience with database technologies (NoSQL or RDBMS, MVCC)

Position Expectations:

Lead a small technical writing team with opportunity for team growth
Integrate with documentation leaders to build a cross-functional documentation team
Work with Engineering, Product, Design, Developer Relations, and Product Marketing
Foster a positive and effective team culture
Develop the writing, testing, and technical skills of the team

Success Measures:

In 3 months:

Met with all team members and learned their interests, strengths, and areas for development
Became comfortable with toolchain and writing workflow
Got to know server engineers and participated in intra and inter-team discussions
Completed any required technical and leadership training

In 6 months:

Reviewed team's work and used it to learn about MongoDB data platform
Adapted to style of writing and instilled technical writing best practices
Worked with each team member to develop a growth plan
Discussed career trajectory and growth opportunities
