Position Overview & Purpose

The
Accounting Specialist - Cochlear Mexico
supports the Finance function in safeguarding the financial integrity of the CMEX legal entity. The role ensures that accounting records, reconciliations, and statutory obligations are executed accurately and on time, with strong traceability and documentation.

With a strong focus on tax compliance and fiscal control, this position substantiates balance sheet accounts, ensures consistency between local and corporate records, and proactively identifies risks and discrepancies. The incumbent partners with Commercial, Logistics, HR/P&C, and Regional Finance to enable reliable financial reporting, reinforce internal controls, and contribute to continuous improvement of accounting and tax processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting, Bookkeeping & Financial Operations

2. Review and post accounting transactions in SAP S/4HANA, ensuring correct GL, cost center, tax codes, and required attributes; maintain clear audit trails and supporting documentation.

3. Perform detailed balance sheet and P&L analysis, reconciliations, and account clean-up activities to ensure reliable financial information.
4. Execute and monitor bank-related activities, including daily movement reviews, bank reconciliations, and timely follow-up of discrepancies.
5. Support cash and collections monitoring by matching customer deposits to open items and ensuring accurate system clearing.
6. Validate operational transactions with Logistics and Commercial (e.g., sales and inventory movements) to ensure completeness and correct accounting treatment.
7. Perform FX revaluation activities for foreign currency transactions in line with policy.

8. Validate T&E, corporate card, and employee reimbursements for policy compliance and tax deductibility prior to posting.

9. Month-End Close (MEC) & Financial Reporting

10. Support month-end close by preparing and posting journal entries, accruals, and provisions aligned with IFRS principles.

11. Prepare and update reconciliation packages (local vs. corporate alignment) with clear variance explanations.
12. Contribute to close deliverables and recurring reports per corporate calendar, ensuring data quality and timeliness.
13. Support management and corporate reporting through schedule preparation, data extraction, and cross-source validation.

14. Provide documentation and analytics required for internal and external audits.

15. Tax Compliance, Internal Controls & Governance

16. Support Mexican tax compliance routines by reviewing tax calculations, validating treatments in postings, and ensuring timely preparation of required filing information.

17. Prepare and issue CFDI payment complements (Complementos de Pago) for PPD collections, ensuring proper linkage and compliance with CFDI regulations.
18. Maintain statutory documentation and compliance certificates (e.g., SAT/IMSS/INFONAVIT opinions where applicable) and escalate warnings or notices as needed.
19. Identify fiscal and control risks through analysis of discrepancies and recurring reconciling items; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
20. Strengthen internal controls by maintaining SOPs/work instructions and ensuring compliance with company policies.

21. Contribute to process improvement, standardization, and system/data readiness initiatives.

22. Financial Analysis & Continuous Improvement

23. Perform analytical reviews on key accounts and expense categories to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

24. Support tax analysis and planning activities within governance boundaries.
25. Collaborate cross-functionally to improve upstream data quality and process discipline.
26. Support ad-hoc financial analysis and contribute to recommendations that enable informed decision-making.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Contaduría Pública) or closely related field.
• Desirable: Coursework or certification in Mexican taxation and/or IFRS.

Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in accounting operations, tax compliance support, reconciliations, and fiscal/audit environments.
• Proven ability to reconcile local and corporate balances, identify discrepancies, and drive resolution with strong documentation and controls.
• Experience with month-end close routines, journal entries, accruals/provisions, and audit support.
• Familiarity with Mexican tax compliance requirements (CFDI issuance, e-Accounting guidelines, VAT/ISR basics) and interaction with government portals.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, analytical models, report automation, financial analysis).
• ERP Systems: SAP S/4HANA (preferred), Contpaq/COI, BlackLine, HFM, Concur, and banking platforms.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS fundamentals (revenue, provisions, leases) and Mexican tax legislation (LISR, LIVA, CFF) relevant to daily operations.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits and financial control design.
