Job Duties:

Incumbent will provide expertise on complex business, financial or managerial issues within a business unit or corporate environment


Additionally, this position will/must:

  • Have the ability to analyze and understand impact and have a broader perspective on specific accounting issues. This requires a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar's business accounting issues and full support of the unit leadership team.
  • Act as a teacher on accounting issues to staff accountants as well as nonaccountants
  • Resolve issues independently
  • Lead and/or direct teams within or outside of discipline addressing complex problems
  • Take full responsibility for outcomes


Senior Staff Accountant II's are knowledgeable on a variety of accounting functions but generally have specialized areas of responsibility at this level.

Incumbent has the ability to accomplish complex and/or technical analysis, but generally utilizes data gathered by others to render an accounting opinion or business decision.

Incumbent will provide advice/recommendations to business unit managers and leaders often working on tactical and strategic business issues.

Possible specific areas of responsibility could include but are not limited to:

  • Determining Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for high complexity projects
  • OPACC growth strategy
  • Enterprise coordination and/or governance of costing and/or investment activities
  • Product group and/or operational strategy development & execution
  • Global footprint and sourcing strategy
  • Development of new/alternative costing methodologies, processes, and/or systems
  • Business proposal development and/or review
  • Post Implementation Audit (PIA) completion and/or review
  • Endtoend project management for sourcing/footprint studies and strategic GFSD initiatives
Incumbent must demonstrate specific accounting knowledge and independently handle accounting issues.

Accounting tasks can be varied in areas such as:


  • Developing worldwide sourcing studies
  • Developing methodology and providing education to accounting and nonaccounting staffs and crossfunctional teams
  • Communicating / consulting to broader (worldwide) audience on cost accounting issues

Background / Experience:


  • Finished degree in accounting plus proven record of success at entry or lower levels.
  • 68 years of accounting experience
  • Fluent English
  • Must demonstrate high levels of initiative, leadership, good judgment, the ability to communicate effectively, a broad understanding of accounting business processes, process improvement, and have a comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar business, products, suppliers and customers.
