Job Description:

Handles a variety of non-routine and difficult inquiries. Direct leadership responsibility for subordinates with clearly defined roles.

Reviews and approves work results conducted by subordinates.

Performs complex research and analysis and ensures compliance with established health/safety/environment principles. Handles nonroutine and difficult inquiries such as supporting the auditing of safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental programs. Manages

professional and support level employees within specific disciplines such as health and safety assurance, air/land/water protection,

industrial hygiene, ergonomics, fire protection, etc.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Adapts differing techniques and methods to deal with variations in work conditions and operations to solve complex problems. Supervises the development and implementation of improvements and/or solutions to work processes and tools. Reports to supervisor/manager on key milestones and critical business initiatives. When necessary, the supervisor is consulted for guidance in problem areas.
Generally has budget responsibility for team/work group. Makes recommendations that impact how financial resources are generated or spent.
Manages subordinates with clearly defined roles within a functional discipline such as health and safety assurance, air/land/water protection, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, fire protection, etc. Determines priorities and timetables, assigns resources/tasks, and provides performance feedback. Accountable for the activities and results of their subordinates.
Subordinates are on a support or lower professional level.
Supervises development and implementation of functional project plans. Leads projects, linking project steps to business strategies. Ensures plans support business needs and goals and that project objectives and deadlines are met. Assembles and leads project teams. Presents project recommendations to appropriate personnel that demonstrate sound planning in support of business needs and goals
Handles non-routine and difficult inquiries where the solution is not immediately apparent. Most complex problem solving may require developing solutions for complex and diverse issues that may be interrelated, requiring significant interpretation and the use of strong analytical skills. Applies extensive experience and knowledge of related and non-related precedents and policies.
Resolves issues and conflicts related to direct reports
Has a considerable impact on the direct work group/team, providing leadership. Decisions may affect the operational effectiveness of multiple work groups or teams, important programs in the department, the next higher organizational tier, and/or related activities within the direct functional area.
Work tasks encompass concepts within multiple disciplines/practices which may include more than one department/location

Working tasks might include:
- b. Reviews and approves non-routine and difficult functional analysis conducted by subordinates
- c. Implements and manages programs to minimize or eliminate health and safety risks to employees/facilities
- d. Develops plans to identify and prioritize critical EHS issues
- e. Drives the incident investigation process by tracking incident investigations, performing trend analysis, and providing feedback to the organization. Continuously improves the incident investigation process.
- f. Develops consistent policies and procedures to ensure full compliance with all applicable corporate, governmental, and local regulations
- g. Provide process/equipment safety support to all areas of the plant, ensuring proper engineering and administrative controls

Qualifications (Education/Experience and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

A Bachelor level university/college degree is generally required. Master's degree is preferred. In addition, a minimum of 69 years relevant working experience is normally required.
Indepth knowledge and experience with the theories and practices of one or more disciplines such as health and safety assurance, air/land/water protection, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, fire protection, etc. Indepth knowledge of assigned area of responsibility, 3M structure, organization, and business.
Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required. Generally requires the ability to communicate in written and spoken English.
