WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER:


The Policy Specialist supports The Nature Conservancy's conservation goals by developing and implementing TNC Mexico policy strategies through interactions and stewardship with decision and policy-makers and key stakeholders at the national and subnational levels, under the leadership and guidance of the Executive Director, and in coordination with a diverse team.

The Policy Specialist under the direction and coordination with the Executive Director plans, implements, and engages actors at the sub-national or national level to affect public and/or corporate policy to further the Conservancy's mission, managing broader working agendas and a dynamic and evolving environment.


WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:


  • The Policy Specialist will, under the leadership and guidance of the TNC Mexico Executive Director will:
  • Contribute with policy input and strategic expertise to implement TNC Mexico conservation strategies.
  • Contribute to position TNC ́s work at national level with strategic actors and audiences.
  • Support the design and implementation of a policy strategy aligned with our 2030 goals: identify steps and leverage points to achieve our goals, key stakeholders, assess strategic partnerships, and develop a roadmap.
  • Build/develop/maintain/strengthen relations with key stakeholders to implement conservation goals.
  • Conduct policy research and write narratives and analytical documents as well as policy briefs and strategic communications to increase interest, achieve the institutionalization of the solutions provided, and improves the engagement in TNC's work.
  • Identify opportunities for financial mobilization to TNC in Mexico
  • Provide policy considerations in international agreements' negotiations.
  • Support TNC Mexico's call for proposals, reports, projects planning and implementation by delivering specific policy objectives in the framework of conservation projects.
  • Build and facilitate internal networks, coordinate meetings, agendas, and presentations with TNC internal staff at global, regional, and local levels to incorporate relevant input to policy work in Mexico.
  • Support a monitoring, evaluation and learning tool for policy strategies, and report policy lessons.
  • Facilitate/participate/collaborate in dialogue with different stakeholders, as well as the realization of events or other related activities.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, law, economics, government relations or related field and at least 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Experience in environmental and development advocacy strategies with business and government.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the political environment in Mexico.
  • Experience in designing and implementing complex projects, setting, and meeting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • Experience working in broader working agendas and in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Experience working with corporate or NGO partners, and government agencies.
  • Experience in navigating the political landscape of Mexico

Desired Qualification

  • Experience in advocacy for themes such as transformation of agrobusinesses, tourism, aquaculture and fishery sectors, climate change, water conservation, marine conservation, and/or innovative finance for conservation may be highly appreciated.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
