Design Technician

Supports the engineering and product development team by creating, modifying, and maintaining technical drawings and 3D models for automotive components and assemblies. This role ensures designs meet customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for automotive components and assemblies.
  • Interpret engineering specifications, GD&T, and technical requirements.
  • Support design validation through prototype updates and design revisions.
  • Maintain drawing control and documentation in accordance with quality standards (e.g., IATF
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to ensure design feasibility.
  • Assist in engineering change management (ECN/ECR process).
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements and automotive standards.
  • Support DFMEA and other design-related documentation activities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Technical degree or Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechatronics, or related field.

Experience:

  • 2–3 years of experience in design or drafting within the automotive industry.
  • Experience working with OEM or Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar).
  • Understanding of GD&T and technical drawing standards.
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes (stamping, machining, plastic injection, assembly, etc.).
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and engineering change processes.
  • Basic knowledge of materials and tolerancing.
  • Experience with PLM systems is a plus.
