The Research Economist is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business.
Recognized subject matter expert within one area. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Is an acknowledged authority both within and outside area of expertise.Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.
Some external communication is typically required. Provides advanced judgment and conducts in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve problems and develop new, innovative solutions.
Required to think beyond existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas.
Significant impact on a function and / or the business through making decisions that determine technical approaches and strategies for the area.
Responsibilities :
To produce frequent and insightful written analysis of a country, region or global with forecasts relating to the underlying factors that drive currency, bond and equity markets;
to understand / explain policy events to Citi's clients both external and internal. The ability to lead teams. Supervise juniors
Address bespoke client requestsInteract with clients internal and external as requested by Sales & TradingDevelop relationships with Citi clientsCollaboration with colleaguesStay informed on developments that have a bearing on the macro environmentAddress client requestsEngage in Citi's broader corporate objectives, such as recruitment and training of junior analysts and associatesAppropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
Qualifications :
15+ years of relevant experienceClear and effective communications both written and spokenAdvanced technical skillsMethodical approach and demonstrated organizational capabilitiesGood interpersonal skills and proven team playerPossess a positive attitude, drive and initiativeSecure and maintain applicable licensesEducation : Bachelor's / University degree, Master's degree preferredThe economist will forecast and write reports about Mexican macro variables (activity, inflation, rates, and FX, etc.)Strong commercial and analytical skills are a must.
Experience in having covered Emerging Market economies in the buy side or sell side would be an advantage.The economist will cover Mexico with the possibility of adding coverage of some Latin American economies later.
