    Your Role

    As Technical Director, you will provide leadership to our studio members, including guidance for less experienced team members. You should be passionate about the design process, from initial concepts to construction completion, including technical detailing and site inspection. With your technical expertise, communication, and relationship-building skills, you will interpret client needs and requirements. You will have international experience working on various projects.

    You will collaborate with colleagues across Gensler, including other Design Synergy leaders, and project stakeholders at all levels. As an active contributor to weekly Technical Director meetings, you will bring concerns and issues for discussion, and transmit decisions and information discussed at the meetings back to your studio. Additionally, as part of the Regional and FirmWide Realization teams, you will be a resource for project teams in different offices working on projects in your jurisdiction.

    What You Will Do

    • Enhance design through strong technical support.
    • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges to the team members.
    • Overview and coordinate all project technical aspects, including full documentation coordination with required consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, sustainability , landscape, civil, acoustic, life safety, etc).
    • Support communication between the project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials.
    • Provide a positive learning and professional growth atmosphere for all team members.
    • Oversee the project manual and specifications.
    • Oversee multiple projects and team members while guaranteeing technical excellence.
    • Lead, mentor, and coach the team members in collaboration with the Studio Directors and Design Directors.
    • Lead the design team towards a cohesive and rational technical solution that best meets the client's brief, conforms to the project brief, and is technically, legally, and financially responsible.
    • Lead the team in detailed technical development of the design and project.
    • Provide active technical development of the design and technical input during the preparation and execution of construction documents.
    • Lead all technical aspects of the project team and oversee all phases.
    • Promote the integration of BIM coordination workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Partner with DT specialists to establish project-specific digital content strategies and protocols.
    • Advocate for the benefits of our IP tools (GBlox, GFloorz, GPlanet) with our clients and project teams
    • Accountable for informing the technical team of current building legislation, code requirements, regulations, and the Quality Management System.
    • Provide Project Risk Management by identifying, evaluating, and preventing or mitigating project risks, errors, and omissions.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining office documentation standards.
    • Interact and work with clients to achieve the design intentions of the brief.
    • Leverage our Design Technology ecosystem to deliver design excellence.
    • Understands technical criteria to ensure compliance with resilience metrics and certification.
    • Incorporates technical specifications aligned with environmental performance criteria.
    • Supervise and ensure that project consultants align with the project's sustainability goals.

    Your Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture
    • 15+ years of project experience in an architectural practice, inclusive at least 10+ years in corporate interiors
    • Strong design sensibility to enhance design through the technical process.
    • Experience with Revit, Rhino , BIM360, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office as minimum software skills
    • Expert knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and green building strategies across multiple local jurisdictions.
    • Extensive knowledge of building materials and construction technology, good knowledge of material and installation
    • Proven working experience in construction administration, site inspection, and contractors' coordination.
    • Strong management and interpersonal skills, getting others to follow suggestions and directives while embracing new approaches.
    • Outgoing and equipped with good listening, communication, time management, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to be active as an educator and willing to invest time to mentor junior technical staff to assist in developing future technical leaders.
    • Resourceful, with the knowledge and know-how to direct others to the applicable Gensler and industry Standards & Resources.
    • Proven performance in directing the design and realization process, both internally and externally, on multiple projects across all phases.
    • Proven sensibility to the design process and ability to interpret and develop creative and technically proficient solutions to design challenges.
    • Significant, demonstrable experience in leading large teams to deliver projects through all stages, including Construction Administration
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with construction contractors and subcontractors.
    • Experience working towards sustainable design principles and integrating them into specific projects.
    • Experience working as a collaborator and leader within a multi-disciplinary team environment, teaching and inspiring others to strive for technical excellence.
    • Ambassador and well-versed in the Gensler Design Culture, Gensler BIM/Revit Platform, Gensler Specifications, Gensler Production & Construction Administration Standards, and the Gensler Contracts & Project Management Standards.
    • LEED accreditation is highly desired.
