RESUMEN/SUMMARY
Performs the purchasing function for the acquisition of various items, equipment and machinery. Also performs related administrative responsibilities.


RESPONSABILIDADES DEL PUESTO/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that materials, equipment and supplies are ordered and timely delivered in order to fulfill manufacturing process requirements and finished goods delivery performance
  • Interface with technical and management personnel regarding possible changes in material, quantity, quality or delivery schedules that may result in cost savings
  • Analyze requisitions for proprietary items to determine possible alternatives, gather data such as prices previously paid for the same or similar items in like quantity and present selling price on such items.
  • Request and analyze quotations concerning items that meet Company design and specification and check for reasonableness of price on such items.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders and arrange for the forwarding of blueprints, specifications, material and tooling.
  • Work with technical personnel in the design stages and also in the quoting process
  • Assist in vendor selection process, including the selection of the most economical proposal; Negotiate with the supplier in accordance with Company regulations and recommend vendors.
  • Interview vendors and investigate new products and processes.
  • Make periodic visits to vendor's plants to become familiar with their equipment, personnel and capabilities and assist them when problems arise.
  • Assist the expeditors on difficult deliveries.
  • Attend and may arrange conferences between vendor personnel and other Company employees.
  • Manage larger, more complex accounts.
  • Mentor Buyer I's in performing purchasing activities for various projects.
  • Lead, or at least participate in, a continuous improvement activity.
  • Review and execute MRP requirements and place or reschedule purchase orders on a variety of items status' material to ensure delivery requirements are being met.
  • Individual position performance goals may be specific to the position, business segment or as it related to an individual's contribution or employment within the organization.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • 25 years in commodity purchasing; Experience in large volume, more complex purchasing accounts/commodities
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively mentor coworkers
  • Demonstrate discretion and confidentiality
  • Effective interpersonal skills, both internally and externally
  • Ability to participate in a continuous improvement activity
  • Effective analytical, planning and organizational skills
  • Effective negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Ability to make sound business decisions and use independent discretion
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with word processing and spreadsheet use; preferably Microsoft software
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of ERP tools (MAPICS or equivalent)

  • Bachelor's degree

Experience:


  • Buyer: 25 years (required)
Commodity Purchasing: 4 years (required)

  • Quoting: 3 years (required)
