Description


The purpose of the Senior Staff Accountant (Specialist Revenue Accounting) role is to account and report on CPKC's revenue to ensure complete and accurate financial results for stakeholders and the investor community.

The Analyst or Specialist Revenue Accounting is responsible for the evaluation and completion of accounting processes to reflect revenue generating activities and expenses as they relate to revenue, including the preparation of external and internal reporting.

The key is to prepare and consolidate accurate and timely analysis to stakeholders such as Finance, Sales and Marketing, and the external community.


Accountabilities

  • Assist with the assessment, accounting, and forecasting of other freight and nonfreight revenue
  • Engage and support various business stakeholders in providing guidance and completing the accounting for revenues and related activities
  • Develop and execute daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports that illustrate how CPKC is performing to plan against key metrics
  • Assist in the validation and publication of internal reporting as it relates to revenues, demand and key metrics
  • Perform journal entries and accounting processes to ensure the complete and accurate recognition of freight and nonfreight revenues
  • Complete relevant sections of the quarterly Management Discussion and Analysis and Annual Report
  • Monitor data integrity to ensure consistent reporting
  • Assist in the consolidation of revenue and key metric data for reporting purposes
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements and data maintenance to achieve business objectives that could be technical in nature
  • Significant interaction with the business units to understand and articulate key drivers of change

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics or Business Administration is preferred
  • 5 years post qualification experience an asset
  • Understanding of Marketing & Sales issues, company forecasting and metrics
  • Demonstrated capability to interpret a wide array of information and determine key messages
  • ERP/SAP, BPC, BI, and Blackline experience an asset
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Advanced analytics
  • Financial acumen
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to clearly communicate both written and oral
  • Strong organizational, time management and relationship management skills
  • Able to work independently, and dig into technical anomalies to drive clarity and resolve problems
  • Ability to bridge the gap between analytics and business understanding
