Description
This position supervises the construction, maintenance, repairs and renewal of bridges on the KCS system.

Performs inspections of bridge structures to ensure compliance with company policies and federal guidelines. Works with local, state and federal governments, Coast Guard, Army Corp, etc. with bridge, culverts and drainage projects.

Ensures compliance of KCS safety rules, regulations, and work procedures. Works close with railroad bridge construction contractors in the repairs and building of KCS bridges.


Accountabilities

  • Provides direction and effective supervision to all subordinates to ensure safety and promote safe and efficient work habits.
  • Plans capital budget.
  • Manages bridge material in various locations for repairs.
  • Directs the continual maintenance by gangs of bridges, culverts and structures.
  • Ensures maximum quality performance with mínimal delays and costs.
  • Builds and reviews various reports, such as bridge inspection reports, gang weekly activity reports, material reports, FRA reports, efficiency tests, etc.
  • Ensures the working reliability and performance of bridge personnel equipment.
  • Inspects railroad bridges, arches and culverts.
  • Analyzes conditions of various types of structures and records status in inspection books.
  • Prioritizes repairs based on conditions.
  • Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
  • Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has oneonone accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using KCS Candor, Aligning the Stars & KCS ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.

Required

  • Bachelor degree with professional License
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

  • Three years of inventory management
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge of railroad construction materials
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail
  • Technical and mechanical acumen
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of KCS On Track Safety Rules, General Code of Operating Rules, FRA Title 49, Track Safety Standards Part 213, and Railroad Workplace Safety and Bridge Worker Safety Part 21
  • Previous Kansas City Southern experience

Working Conditions

  • Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include afterhours, weekends and holidays.
