Sr. Project Engineering Specialist

The Sr. Project Specialist position will be responsible for the budgeting process from idea to submittal and revision. They will be expected to understand fluctuations in scope and their impact on cost for contractors and building materials.

In addition, they will be expected to have a technical understanding of equipment so they can differentiate expected cost based on technical scopes.

This position will be part of the Project Management team but will act as a liaison between finance, product development and other teams as necessary.

They will be expected to "consult" on expected project costs and be able to explain costs discrepancies/budgeting decisions to other Niagara departments.


Essential Functions

  • Manage the budgeting process.
  • Review scopes and highlight areas that could result in budget swings if left undefined
  • Create preliminary budgets based on historical budgets and current market understanding
  • Refine budgets as scope clarifications are made
  • Consult with finance to answer budget questions and create budget comparisons with explanations for deviations from project to project
  • Consult with other departments on budgeting questions and estimations for projects
  • Build further understanding around contractor and building modification costs as they relate to project scope.
  • Collaborate with PMs and Analyst on budget trackers throughout project lifecycle
  • Further improve the budgeting process through tool creation using historical budgets and current cost fluctuations
  • Initiates Project Creation in Oracle
  • Maintains documentation on budget iterations including scope differences between scenarios
  • Analyze post mortems on budgets for projects. Be able to explain reasons for variances with support from the PM.
  • Makes effective independent decisions regarding long term issues that do not require team discussion, input or agreement

  • Strong understanding of the manufacturing process and equipment
  • Strong understanding of construction and contractor costs as they relate to project scope
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to all levels of internal and external recipients

  • Writes clearly and informatively; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Must have Microsoft Office competency in Outlook, Excel, Word & Power Point, MS Project is a plus
  • Ability to create and prepare concise and accurate reports and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Extensive experience in document control
