Reporting to the SERA Manager, the Environmental Manager is responsible for promoting the environmental governance of the San Nicolas project and supporting both projects and operations to meet environmental compliance requirements and performance objectives.

In this role, the incumbent is responsible for improving systems for managing and reporting on environmental and sustainability performance with an emphasis on maintaining compliance and managing key risks.

This position will include interactions with all levels of staff across all key functions, from operational staff to senior management.


Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader who complies with and sponsors the company's environmental and health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintains a strong relationship with the environmental leaders of the operation and helps these individuals meet their environmental objectives, including support for technical issues, compliance with permit requirements, applicable regulations, compliance with existing provisions, and proper risk management.
  • Ensure that project approvals and the delivery of environmental and mining permits are obtained and maintained at different stages of the project and different levels of government.
  • Manage major environmental permitting projects to obtain necessary environmental assessments and environmental permit approvals in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Advise project team members on permitting and environmental issues.
  • Manages the process of environmental reporting and data collection, including managing the environmental baseline and the various existing databases.
  • Prepares reports and briefings for SERA management, senior management, and Teck's Technical, Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Council.
  • Design and implement an environmental community of practice, to share leading practices across the company and support the development of environmental professionals.
  • Supports the maintenance and efficient implementation of Teck's Avalanche Management, Security, Minimum, and Community Management Standards (HSEC) and other environmental guidance documents.
  • Interacts with industry associations and government agencies in developing or reviewing environmental regulations.
  • Actively participates as a company representative in previously selected government and industry associations, including the Chamber of Mining of Mexico, the Zacatecas Mining Cluster, and other prominent organizations.

Qualifications:


  • University degree in Engineering or Environmental Sciences, with emphasis on Environment.
  • Specialized master's and/or doctoral studies in fields related to Environmental Sciences.
years or more of progressively increasing environmental experience in the mining industry.

  • Scientific knowledge and practical experience in an environmental specialty relevant to mining, such as water quality, air quality, noise, or biodiversity.
  • Advanced experience in environmental data management and reporting, including database systems.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of environmental management systems and risk management systems.
  • Experience in environmental functions at the operational level, preferably including experience in coal mining or base metals operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills and verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to positively influence other teams and stakeholders.
  • Able to manage a technically diverse staff and consultants using their strengths and providing the necessary support to help them be effective.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Spanish and English language skills.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Availability to travel nationally and internationally.
