The Role

The SDE-I will build and extend Tala's backend architecture to support new country launches, new features, and a fastgrowing user base. As a technologist, the Backend Engineer works towards building a highly available, scalable, reliable, faulttolerant, and performant microservices platform. The backend Engineer follows Tala's engineering processes and standards while advancing Tala's mission and business objectives

What You'll Do:

Designing and building large components in multiple services.
Work with the team to ensure high quality of architecture and design of systems.
Create the optimum technical solution considering all the nonfunctional requirements.
Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions.

What You'll Need:

Basic understanding of Object-Oriented Programming patterns and concepts
Exposure to container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes is a plus
Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Aurora, etc.) and basic understanding of raw queries or ORMs (e.g., Hibernate)
Exposure to message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) is desirable
Basic familiarity with monitoring tools in production environments, including logging tools like Kibana and basic APM tools
