The Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) team is accountable for all Infrastructure, Security, IT Operations and all End User Services and technologies.

This group will ensure that our IT Services are seamless and secure, and that technology is delivered in an efficient, effective, and agile way, with a strong focus on experience.

The ETS Delivery Team is a global team of over 80 program and project managers working closely with all areas of AstraZeneca, supporting functions as varied as Research & Development through to Commercial Sales.

The team delivers key strategic programmes, technology refresh and innovative and game changing digital solutions.

Recent examples include delivering all the IT in AstraZeneca's new Cambridge Headquarters, the rollout of Microsoft Teams to 80,000 users and the core IT integration of Alexion.


About The role


This particular role delivers projects in our Strategic Programmes portfolio which operates across a wide range of enterprise technologies, both end user facing and those toolsets required to secure our estate and enable IT Operations.

Projects range from large scale software rollouts to transformational service change. Projects can have a significant business change component often impacting AstraZeneca's entire user community.


Senior It Project Manager leads one or a set of interrelated major global projects/programmes with a value of up to $20M.

The role typically reports to a Programme Director or Capability Lead and maintains project accountability, from initiation to close, to deliver effective solutions that meet approved customer and business needs.

The role is accountable for determining and delivering solutions to approved budget and schedule commitments whilst meeting required quality and compliance standards.

Focus areas include stakeholder management (varies by organization), risk management and delivery of business benefit.

This role is also required to follow established project management standards and lead / contribute to continued development of the project / programme management capability.


The Senior IT Project Manager
will be accountable for:

  • Oversee, drive and approve plans for projects / programmes, including activities, resources, costs, roles, responsibilities and quality as defined in the IT Project Management Methodology (ADF).
  • Manage and coordinate project / programme budgets, forecasts, tasks, schedules, risks, change management, and status to support effective decisions and project reporting to stakeholders and review boards.
  • Manage and coordinate interdependencies between projects and programme workstreams (intraprogram and across portfolio).
  • Manage relationships with senior business stakeholders to ensure the effective capturing of business requirements and commitment to project/program objectives. Responsible for steering / stakeholder meetings, communication of status, issues, risks.
  • Drive effective risks & issues management, ensuring processes are in place and effectively used. Ensure problems resolved and escalate as appropriate.
  • Build a cohesive project /programme team and provide the leadership necessary to maximize the team's success.
  • Own project / programme improvement plans and oversee execution of remediation plans.
  • Manage changes to project/programme scope, ensuring that all impacts and changes are approved and appropriately communicated to stakeholders and review boards.
  • Assure / develop service transition plans to ensure project delivered solutions are sustainable within a BAU operations environment, including controlled handover into operational support.
  • Ensure the project team adheres to all standards including ADF, quality, and compliance, as well as processes, defined technical capabilities, and best practices. Establish program governance and lead Decision Point reviews; member Steering Committee meetings.
