Overview

  • The position will be part of the Controller's group within Mastercard LAC's Finance department, reporting to the LAC Regional Assistant Controller.
  • The Technical Local Stat Controller will provide support to LAC Countries having a direct and strong relation with the Divisional Controllers, Divisional Finance Officer, Local Finance and Tax Teams and the different Business Teams in all countries.
  • The LAC Controllers Group is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the US GAAP financials in partnership with the GBSC (Global Business Service Center), ensuring local statutory reporting compliance as well as providing support to the business teams across a number of areas including accounting and internal controls.
  • The Technical Local Stat Controller must be a Business Partner who provides support and guidance on Local Stat and Regulation Controllership topics to the different business areas in LAC.
  • The role will provide oversight for Stat Accounting, Reporting and Compliance in partnership with the Divisional Controllers and Tax Department as well as Accounting Firms such as KPMG and Deloitte.
  • Other job responsibilities will include tasks to support the LAC Region's accounting and reporting in accordance with corporate policies and US GAAP and SEC requirements.
Role

  • Ensures integrity and accuracy of statutory financials for LAC with special focus on regulated entities and has primary responsibility for ensuring company compliance with external and corporate accounting requirements, both from a US GAAP as well as local statutory perspective.
  • Design and implement proper controls to monitor regulatory compliance from a Finance / Accounting standpoint.
  • Provide guidance on local accounting and reporting regulation rules.
  • Assist with audits and annual financial statements for statutory purposes.
  • Monitor and review Local vs. Oracle reconciliations prepared by each market.
  • Liaison with accounting firms; evaluate third party deliverables and performance.
  • Provides accounting guidance to the business for deal structures, intercompany arrangements, business ventures, etc.
  • Provides guidance on complex issues and prepares technical accounting memorandums in response. Consults with the Regional Controllership Team as appropriate.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements in partnership with outside providers; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports and advising management on needed actions.
  • Manages statutory reporting, providing support and guidance and ensuring cohesive teamwork throughout.
All About You

In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:

  • Extensive experience/proven track record (12+ years) in accounting controls and financial processes within a global organization or within a Big 4 Firm. A mix of industry and Big 4 experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience (5+ years, current) in a Mexican Regulated Financial Entity (CNBV / Banxico) such as IFPE, Fintech, Bank and/or other financial institutions.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish is a must
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; master's degree is a plus
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge including Mexico (a must) & other LAC countries (preferred), US and/or IFRS.
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Controls concepts and Sarbanes Oxley regulations
  • Drives continual process improvement agenda, demonstrated ability in challenging and improving processes.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to provide solutions that drive positive results.
