Quality Engineer

Scope of Position

  • Provide quality engineering support for continuous improvement, change management, and cost reduction projects, including statistical analysis and reporting as needed.
Responsible for the operation of all areas of the quality team:
material input inspection, process quality control, final inspection, and quality laboratory.

  • Support and promote initiative and activities for the ongoing compliance of the Quality Management Systems to ISO, industry, and customer requirements and support the maintenance, compliance, and improvements to the quality management system.
  • Position reports to plant quality manager.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Maintain the quality management systems to ensure compliance to ISO, industry standards, and customer expectations. Collaborate with the engineering, production, maintenance, and supply chain departments to ensure that each area follows the procedures and complies with the QMS requirements.
  • Act as the local EtQ Administrator (QMS software) and work with division administrator.
  • Support quick and effective responses to customer complaints and issues. Provide support to operations to resolve product quality issues on the production floor in real time.
  • Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials from raw materials to finished products. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for inspection, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Monitor inspection and testing processes and equipment, conduct quality assurance tests, and perform statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Work with process and product improvement teams regarding key product attributes to develop appropriate control strategies and feedback loops to achieve lowcost manufacturing, superior quality and service, and improved capability and capacity.
  • Participate in all internal, 3rd party, corporate, and customer quality audits of the plant.
  • Facilitate corrective action teams to resolve audit deficiencies.
  • Purchasing coordinator for the annual evaluation of suppliers.
  • Coordinator of the process audit program.
  • Supervise the quality technicians in the absence of the quality supervisor.
  • Provides training to employees as needed of qualityrelated systems. Supports by identifying training needs of the staff under quality supervisor charge.

Required Education & Experience

  • BS Degree in engineering or science
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, and/or quality. Experience in glass industry and/or a regulated industry preferred (ISO, cGMP, GLP, CRF, FDA, etc)

Required Skills:


  • Databased decisionmaking skills with the ability to use data to proactively find solutions
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to drive root cause analysis and direct engineering solutions
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with customers, suppliers, and coworkers both within the plant and at other Corning locations
  • Advanced English language skills. Be able to hold conversations, read and interpret technical documents, and write documents.
