Main purpose of job:


The British Embassy is recruiting a EO Senior Trade Officer to work in the Department for Business and Trade, in Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey, in the Technology Sector, featuring implementations in security, and telecommunications.

Our primary objective is to increase and deepen the UK-Mexico bilateral trade relationship. We are looking for an individual (with relative or transferable experience) to champion the Embassy's trade work.

Trade and Investment is at the centre of the British government's foreign policy priorities.

Increasing the UK's Tech industry footprint and market share in Mexico, whilst tackling market access barriers, is a priority for the Embassy.

Potential collaborations and expansion whilst providing new opportunities for the UK with Mexico, is also an objective.

Mexico is an important and growing partner for the UK and there is real potential to increase and diversify our trade and investment relationship over the coming years.


Roles and Responsibilities:


Support the development and promotion of business opportunities throughout Mexico (and support Regional Collaboration) for UK companies in the Tech Sector, with implementations in security and telecommunications.

For the Tech sector implemented in security (35%) and Telecomms (55%) by
:


  • Proactively, identify and seize market opportunities for UK companies with a focus on the Sector and Regional strategy for the delivery of the established targets for each Financial Year.
  • Provide advice to UK companies in their export journey to Mexico with market intelligence, regulatory information and business advice.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders (distributors, importers, chambers of commerce and other sectoral organisations, government agencies etc) to increase the awareness and demand for UK products.
  • Working closely with the Marketing and Communication team and contributing to communications and marketing activities to promote the UK capabilities and achieve the highest impact possible for the correct audience.

Embassy objectives in Mexico (5%)

  • Assist other Embassy teams (eg. Programme (Prosperity/Future Cities/COP26/Climate), Political, Consular) in fulfilling their objectives in Mexico.
  • Deliver work in line with Embassy Values (Honesty, Respect, Inclusion and Professionalism)


Essential qualifications, skills and experience - Have a strong understanding of public procurement on the sectors mentioned and private sector investment dynamics with some relevant professional experience.


  • Have strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Have project management skills.
  • Should be a proactive and creative selfstarter with strong interpersonal skills and ability to deliver positive results through collaboration and networks.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication (English and Spanish).
  • Excellent data management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent budget management

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience - Experience of engaging internationally.

  • Knowledge of UK policy and business landscape.
