Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

At a crucial time for the UK's leading role internationally and in the face of global challenges, this exciting role within the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) will help further develop the UK's strong reputation across Latin America, the Caribbean and the UK Overseas Territories (LATAC).

Working to the Head of Campaigns, you will be responsible for leading and embedding an audience-centric, insight-driven, innovative and value-added communications approach within the LATAC network.

You will work to align messages delivered by His Majesty's Government (HMG) internationally to help position the UK as a responsible, reliable and effective international actor and partner, and increase the positive impact of our communication in countries across the region.

We are looking for a campaigns and media manager with experience in planning, designing and delivering high-profile campaigns that are engaging and influencing, and support delivery of wider policy and business objectives.

You will be enthusiastic and proactive; able to spot thematic links; engage with geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders; and take effective and informed decisions based on sound judgement, in-depth knowledge and evidence drawn from audience insight.

With a knowledge of the Latin America communications landscape and a keen eye for emerging communications trends, you will have a passion for sharing your strong communications skills with, and motivating, others.

Occasional travel across the region and to the UK may be required.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • As part of the Regional Communications Hub based in Mexico City, you will plan and deliver strategic media and digital communication campaigns that support UK government priorities in a wide range of topics (e.g. disinformation, human rights, climate, etc.), ensuring highquality implementation and evaluation.
  • You will be expected to strategically align communications delivered in LATAC in order to accomplish central FCDO objectives. This will include helping prioritise central requests that will have greater impact in Latin American audiences; translating communication products (e.g. press releases, digital assets, media top lines, etc.); tailoring/adapting central campaigns assets; seeking regional opportunities; and delivering high quality monitoring reports.
  • Lead the identification and management of campaigns risks. Detect compelling stories for media and digital communications that will advance our regional communication objectives, working closely with policy colleagues in London and across the LATAC network.
  • Work with country leads to ensure that they adopt an insightled approach to HMG communications by promoting the use of research tools to get a deeper knowledge of audiences and improve the effectiveness of communications. This will be done through a toolkit of assets, training materials and other resources (e.g. perception studies) that will embed consistency across the network. The jobholder will make sure that communication teams use these insights to plan their local campaigns in line with UK government standards, as well as encourage and support them to build and develop their own local methods.
  • Develop an indepth understanding of communication teams' capabilities across the region, and help organise and deliver trainings based on that, working with the head of the team and other senior level decisionmakers to identify gaps in campaign planning, audience insight and evaluation skills.
