Position Summary


Reporting to the Vice President, Sales, Service & Marketing or his/her designee, the Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for generating new business with new clients, building business relationships, and executing sales strategies to meet and/or exceed annual sales targets.

Working with the Manager, Commercial Trade the BDM will generate new clients/customers in the assigned territory in Canada, US and/or Mexico.


The BDM will be responsible for developing the pipeline of new business opportunities in order to achieve sales targets and objectives.

The BDM is required to have a thorough knowledge of markets, industries, and geography which will assist in the evaluation of where the services and solutions of Buckland can be utilized to grow revenue.

The BDM will be able to articulate Buckland's value proposition in order to meet with key decision makers.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide strong sales leadership with a focus on expanding the company's customer base while achieving sales and client relations targets
  • Maintain a robust sales pipeline to drive growth in revenue and market share
  • Implement and maintain accurate reporting for developing recommendations to address any performance gaps
  • Work alongside Director of Client Service to compile/generate for KPI measurements
  • Responsible for all aspects of new business development within the assigned territory.
  • Prospect for new business, arrange meetings with potential customers to promote Buckland services
  • Prepare and present impactful and engaging presentations to new customers
  • Preparing responses to requests for proposals (RFP's) and requests for quotations (RFQ's), negotiating rates and expanding relationships.
  • Identify potential clients, qualifying clients, and identifying decision makers within these clients, following a strategic account management business development methodology
  • Record all sales activity using CRM software
  • 7+ years of sales experience in customs brokerage or trade manage services
  • Minimum 3 years of sales management experience considered an asset
  • Degree or diploma in supply chain, customs, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting/exceeding goals as an individual contributor
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI or other CRM/Marketing Automation and reporting tools
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills: including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to build relationships with peers, crossfunctional counterparts, and senior management
  • Integrity and trust
  • Strong leadership and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability and desire to travel in US, Canada, and Mexico up to 40% of the time
  • Excellent problemsolving, analytical skill, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Comfortable interacting on a regular basis and build strong relationships with Senior Management, Clients, Vendors, and Carriers and Customer Service department.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, networking, written and consulting/presentation skills
